

Lynton proudly served in the Air Force for 21 years. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. During his time in the Air Force, he served in the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany, Alaska, and Taiwan. Lynton completed most of his career at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, where he raised his family. After his retirement, Lynton worked with FAA at the flight service station in New Bern. One of Lynton's favorite hobbies was playing golf, especially at Fairfield Harbour, where he was the longest living resident of the community.
Leaving behind to honor his legacy and many memories are his daughter, Debbie Murray; granddaughters, Jessica Harris (Keith) and Lindsey Mott; great-grandchildren, Ella Joyce, Lillie Marie, and Ryan Sophia; sister-in-law, Ruby Morgan (Marshall); special friends, Christine McPhee, Anita Myers, and Kenneth Evans; and many loving family members and close friends.
Lynton is preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce Stephenson; sister, Mary Holleman; brother, John Stephenson; and son-in-law, Robert "Bob" Murray.
A celebration of Lynton's life will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, November 11, 2024, at Cotten Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors following the service. Lynton will be laid to rest beside his wife at Wake Chapel Church Cemetery at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
