Born in Pitt County, she grew up in the country in Craven County. She was the daughter of the late Lester Leo Wooten and Edna Broadway Wooten.
She worked all her life but was best known working for Norris Reed in the legal field and in later years retired as Federal Clerk of Court. She was a long-time member of Broad Street Christian Church where she had many fond years of attending Sunday School and Church Service as well as group trips and playing cards in the Fellowship Hall. She also was very talented with her sewing and painting skills.
She is survived by her children, Barbara Daugherty and Lila Daugherty Cotten; daughter-in-law Iris Annette Daugherty; grandchildren, Kimberly Daugherty Berry (Travis), Heather Martin Dail (Billy), and Margaret Lila Martin Hiatt (Richard); and her siblings, Lester Leo Wooten, Jr., and Roger Wooten.
She is preceded in death by her son, Reginald Daugherty; her previous husbands, Charles Hardy Daugherty, Jr. and Theodore Baxter; and siblings, Jessie Lee Wooten, Aubrey Wooten and Judy Wooten Martin.
A celebration of Margaret's life will be held on Monday, July 31, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Lakeside Chapel at Greenleaf Memorial Park. Following the service, the family will receive family and friends, and Miss Margaret will be laid to rest.
