Margaret “Peg” Elizabeth Gignac, 75, passed away on September 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that touched everyone she met.
Born on April 5, 1951 in Washington DC Peg was the daughter of the late Marjorie Butts, with whom she shared a close and cherished bond.
On November 2, 1985 she became the beloved wife of James “Jim” Gignac, retired Fire Chief, in Lansing Michigan. In 1994 they moved to Wisconsin Rapids Wisconsin where they remained until 2020. Peg literally picked New Bern, North Carolina out of The Southern Living magazine. After a visit, the ocean called her home, and her happy place was her feet in the sand and water.
Peg lived a life with simple joys and meaningful moments. Thanks to her mom, she was an avid reader and could often be found with a book in her hand. This passion has since been passed through multiple generations. She lovingly created beautiful quilts, many of which were stitched entirely by hand. Peg also found joy in cross-stitching, crossword puzzles, and of course, shopping. Any animal Peg came in contact with was her friend. From her cherished dogs, birds, rabbits, and yes, even her pet squirrel, speaks to the kind heart she displayed.
However, Peg’s greatest accomplishment was becoming a devoted mother in 1976 to her only daughter, Khryse. In 2010, she joyfully welcomed her only granddaughter, Cambree.
Peg is survived by her loving husband, Jim Gignac, daughter Khryse (Nick) Flugaur, granddaughter, Cambree Flugaur, stepson, Dan Gignac and brothers, Steve Butts and Jim Greenlee. Peg was predeceased by her mother Marjorie Butts.
Jim would like to thank the staff at SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House for their kindness and support during her stay.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House in Eastern North Carolina, PO Box 640, Newport, NC 28570 or https://www.crystalcoasthospicehouse.org/donate.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Cotten Funeral Home.
