Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Green, 100, of New Bern, NC passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 10, 2024. Lib was born April 6, 1923, to the late John David Monette and Nancy Elizabeth Conway Monette in Jones County, NC.
Lib was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother/great-grandmother to her family and good friend to many. A lifelong Christian, she was a long-time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. New Bern was home most of Lib’s life; however, as the wife of a Marine who served 30 years in the United State Marine Corps (USMC), she traveled and lived in Southern California, Puerto Rico, and Eastern Virginia.
Lib is survived by her daughters, Mitzi Gaskins of Ernul, NC and Bonnie Barrett of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren Denise Lillis (Daren), Michelle Gaskins (Clayton), Hunter Green (Tammy), Jason Green, Megan Barrett-Loeb (Mike), and Mallory Barrett; great-grandchildren Matthew Lillis, Nathan Green (Jessica), Sarah Bullock (Jared), Madison Gaskins and Levi Loeb; great-great-granddaughters Hailee and Hannah Green; sister-in-law, Bertha Green Wood; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Harlice Green; son, Richard Green; son-in-law, Danny Gaskins; and former son-in-law Tom Barrett.
Our family is grateful for the additional care provided most recently by Craven County Hospice (Mary, Erica, and Jody). We also recognize the home care for Mom through Independent Living Home Care Agency (Donna) and Home Instead (Linda) the past couple of years. We thank CCHC Coastal Primary Care and Taylor Retina Center for many years of medical care.
Lib has been truly blessed with close family and friends who have eased this journey through prayers and personal visits, giving comfort, support, and love.
The family will receive friends Sunday, February 18, 2024, 1 p.m. at Cotten Funeral Home, 2201 Neuse Blvd., New Bern, NC, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the Cotten Funeral Home Chapel. The family will have a private entombment at Greenleaf Memorial Park Cemetery, 900 River Road, New Bern, NC following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Craven County Hospice (www.cravencountyhospice.com/donations), the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC (foodbankcenc.org), or to a charity of your choice.
