Melisa Herring Cuthrell, 52, of New Bern, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 19th, 2018. She enjoyed many of the simple things in life, watching a good NASCAR or dirt track race, spending time at the ball field, and giving of her time at Tri-Community Vol. Fire Dept. Although plain-spoken, Melisa had a big heart and an even bigger love for children. This could be seen in every aspect of her life from her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education to her time as a teacher at West Craven Middle School and of course, the guidance, care and support she provided her own children. She enjoyed attending Port City Community Church where she served on the "Welcome Team" and kept the "Droplets" on Sunday evenings. Melisa never met a stranger and was a loving wife, an awesome mother, a devoted daughter and special friend to so many ... she will be missed but her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Robbie Cuthrell; three children, Jim DeArmitt, Allison Morton (Josh), and Clay Cuthrell; parents, George and Iris Herring; brother, Vance Herring (Betty); sister, Teri Johnson (Earl); father and mother-in-law, Robert and Shirley Cuthrell; sister-in-law, Jennifer Robison; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her birth mother, Martha Vandergrift and brother-in-law, Kevin Cuthrell.
The family will recieve friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, May 24th at Port City Community Church, 2840 Neuse Boulevard, New Bern, which will be followed by a celebration of life service beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Danny Rogers officiating.
Arrangements are by Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory.
