Mike was born in Norfolk, VA. on February 19, 1950, to Earl and Julia Parker. He spent 26 years with the US Army Reserves and retired as a Master Sergeant. During this time, he forged many lifelong friendships, and gathered countless special memories that he would cherish. For over 52 years Mike was a general contractor, leaving his mark in New Bern, NC, and Myrtle Beach, SC. A master craftsman in his own right, he used his God given gift of building, along with ingenuity, and creativity to transform the mediocre into something spectacular. Two of his proudest accomplishments were building a mountain home in Grassy Creek, NC, and the Parker Farm in Pollocksville, NC. His sparkling, “Parker blue eyes”, with a twinkle of mischief, were sure to catch the attention of all that saw them. Mike’s love of dance, and the swiftness of his feet enabled him to shag his way into the Shag Hall of Fame in Atlantic Beach, NC of which he was proud. His quick wit, storytelling, and jokes brought much joy and laughter to those that knew him. He was passionate about his mini farm and its animals including horse, cow, goats, donkeys, llamas, and chickens, and was most at home in the seat of his John Deere tractor plowing his fields. Mike loved his time with family and loved having everyone gather for special occasions, whether at the farm or in the mountains. He cherished his many children and grandchildren, appreciating each in their own special way.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his oldest daughter, Katherine Kerry Parker, whom he adored.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Sheila Parker, sister Elizabeth (Liz) Todd, and his daughters Marjorie Parker Hicks (Wayne) and grandchildren, Will and Maggie. Ann Ashley Parker Daniels and grandchildren, Hunter and Laura Holdyn.
On May 7, 2007, Mike gathered 5 more children and 14 more grandchildren whom he considered his own. Samuel Whitehurst (Sallie) and grandchildren Olivia, Audrey, Ben, and Matt. Andrea Kite (Patrick) and grandchildren Tristan and Evan. Russell Whitehurst, partner (Diane) and grandchildren Hannah, Sarah, Carson, Alexandria, and Victoria. Ashley Benton (Roger).
