Mitzie, a native of Harkers Island, was born to Oscar Castro and the late Rebecca Castro. She was a true “Islander” and never forgot her roots. Her great grandfather was one of the last lighthouse keepers at Cape Lookout before the Coast Guard took over maintenance. This made her very proud and it showed through her love of lighthouses.
Mitzie married Rodney Flowers in 1979 and moved to New Bern several years later. She was blessed with two wonderful children and a granddaughter that filled the last nine years of her life with so much joy.
She attended St. Mary’s OFW Baptist Church but remained a member at Harkers Island Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Sadly, Mitize was preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Richard and Rosa Flowers of New Bern.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday, October 19, 2018 at St. Mary’s OFW Baptist Church Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park. Visitation is Thursday evening from 6 – 8 PM at Cotten Funeral Home.
