Monica Alicia Patton

Monica was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to her loving parents, Charles “Pete” Patton and Frances “Fran” Patton, who survive her. She is also survived by her sister, Karen Reaves, and Karen’s significant other, Jay Miller; her nephew Nicholas Reaves and niece Emma Reaves; three aunts; one uncle; five cousins; and many second cousins. Monica was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A graduate of John McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia, Class of 1991, Monica was an active student who played softball and participated in the marching band as part of the color guard and front ensemble, as well as played saxophone during concert season. After high school, she pursued a career as a medical biller and coder in Atlanta before relocating to New Bern in 2007 to be closer to her family. She continued her career at Coastal Children’s Clinic in New Bern, where she worked until her passing. Monica was a dedicated employee who took great pride in her work and formed lasting friendships with her colleagues.

Monica had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved Pug, Daisy, who was her companion for 15 years. After Daisy’s passing, she found comfort in rescuing Tinkerbell, who brought joy back into her life. Monica had the deepest love for her nephew and niece, Nick and Emma. For years, they enjoyed their annual ‘day after Christmas’ shopping with “Nanny”, seeking out the deals! Monica was proud of Nick and his Appalachian State University Moutaineers and Emma and her UNC Wilmington Seahawks! Monica also enjoyed cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, Carolina Panther and Atlanta Braves with great enthusiasm! She also loved to bake and try new recipes she shared with her family and coworkers at pot luck gatherings. Monica’s happiest moments were simply spent at home with her parents, watching their favorite TV shows together.

A Celebration of Monica’s life will be held later, in the Spring, her favorite season. May her beautiful memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
