

Nancy was born in New Bern, NC at St. Luke’s Hospital on May 9, 1941. She is preceded in death by her parents Henry Leonard “Len” Gibbs and Martha Hurst Gibbs.
Nancy graduated from New Bern High School in 1959. She was then accepted to Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg,VA. In 1960, Nancy made her debut at the Terpsichorean Club Ball in Raleigh, NC. After graduating college, Nancy became a career elementary school teacher in New Bern, and taught for many years for the Fairfax County Schools in Falls Church, VA., retiring in 1997. After her retirement, she split her time between Falls Church and New Bern.
Nancy will be remembered for her fun spirit and sense of humor. She was a creative artist and engaging storyteller. She was a loyal friend, attentive listener and would often offer sound advice. She enjoyed the arts, music and traveling. Her true joy was spending time with her family and friends.
Nancy is survived by her cousins; Sam Hurst Hershfield (Jill) from Bradenton, FL., Sally Wilshire Emeigh (David) from Eagle Rock, VA., Micah Wilshire (Katie) of Nashville, TN, John Dunn, Bill Green (Lisa,son Thomas), John Green (Jane) all from New Bern. She is also survived by her longtime family friends “The Godwin Girls”

A celebration of Nancy’s life will take place at Cotten Funeral Home, Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 11:00 am. A reception will immediately follow the service at 2201 Neuse Blvd, New Bern, NC.
