He owned and operated Coward's Red & White and he retired from the Trenton Fire and Rescue. He served as Jones County Commissioner for eight years.
Oz is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine Coward, one son, Timmy Coward and wife Dana of Trenton; two daughters, Sandra Coward Dudley of Cape Carteret; Mary Ann Coward of Trenton; three brothers, A.T. Venters of Ayden; Corey Coward of Pollocksville; Mike Coward of Bath; two sisters, Ethel Batchelor of Pollocksville; Opal Hoyle of New Bern; and six grandchildren, Tiffany, Hannah, Kier, Will, Skylar and Devin.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Cotten Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Cotten Funeral Home. Burial with Fireman's honors will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
