Aldo was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-five years, Diane Michelle Bassignani; his son Mario John Bassignani, and his parents Mario Bassignani and Venezia (Riani) Bassignani. Aldo is survived by one daughter, Susan Wilson and husband William of Stafford, VA; one son, Aldo Bassignani of New Bern; one brother Elvi Bassignani of Jackson, New Jersey; and six grandchildren, Ashley and Eric Wilson; Caitlyn Gumbel and Jordan Field; and Melissa and Kyle Bassignani.
Aldo was born in East Harlem, New York where he graduated from High School, and went on to attend the State University of New York, Institute of Applied Arts and Science where he received degrees in both Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. Aldo worked both as a Defense Contractor and a Navy Civil Servant for the United States Navy in Combat Systems/Missile Computers. His career provided him opportunities both here and abroad. In 1962 he moved from New York to Washington State and resided there until 1970, then on to Hawaii where he lived and worked until 1990. From 1984 to 1987 he resided and worked in Yokosuka, Japan, where he had the opportunity to experience and travel Asia. In 1990 Aldo retired and he and his wife Diane left Hawaii and settled in New Bern to spend their retired years. After retirement he and his wife had the pleasure to travel and experience Europe.
Aldo was a Scout Master with the Aloha Council Boy Scouts in Hawaii for many years where he influenced the lives of numerous young men. Aldo was very active in Masonic affiliated organizations both here in New Bern as well as in Hawaii.
The family will meet visitors at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 29, 2020, followed by a service at 2:00 PM at Village Chapel Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow the services at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
