After a 15 month battle with cancer, Patricia (Patti) Jackson Lopez left this world Friday, November 25, 2011 to be with the Lord and the family members who went before her. She is predeceased by her mother and stepfather, Zelma and Jack Jackson, her brother, Billy Jackson and nephew, Chase Jackson, baby son of Vickie and Andy Jackson.
Patti leaves behind her husband, Ted Lopez and her only child, Johnny Campbell; her sister, Jackie Robinson and her husband, Tommy, and Jackie's son, Jake Stilley; two brothers, and their families, Andrew Jackson, and his wife Vicky and their children, Tanner and McKenzie and Ricky Jackson, all of New Bern. Patti's husband, Ted Lopez' family, Timmy and Sandy Lopez, their 4 children and 2 grandchildren of San Diego, California; Steven Lopez and his 2 children of Havelock, NC and Christopher Lopez and his wife, Mariette and their child of Marysville, Washington; step-daughter, Chrissy Drascula, and her husband, John and their 2 children of Hubert, NC. Patti's best friend for 55 plus years, Hellen Neely Caladino of Raleigh, NC will miss her as much as any family member.
Patti is a native of New Bern, attended Brinson Memorial School and New Bern High School. She was baptized at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
She graduated from the first cosmetology class in 1970 from Craven Tech, and was a beautician for 15 years.
Patti and Ted owned two very successful businesses in New Bern for 30 years. Patti's Beach Bingo, TAPS 1 & 2 and PC's Sports and Dance Club. She was also a lifetime member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary Post 2514. During that time, Patti made a host of friends, some scattered all over the United States. Anyone who met Patti could not resist her giving nature and her warm, witty personality. Years in business also gave her the strength to see that anything wrong was made right. She helped a lot of people over the years, some who deserved it and even some who didn't.
There are not enough words to express the loss that will be felt by so many people.
Memorial services for Patti will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 4pm at Cotten Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, Patti's wishes is that you make a donation in her name to cancer research at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, External Affairs Office, UNC-CH CB# 7295, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7295.
Arrangements by Cotten Funeral Home and Crematory.
