

Peggy Amerson passed away peacefully at her home on July 1, 2026.
Born on May 12, 1954, in New Bern, North Carolina, Peggy was the beloved daughter of Duffy and Rosalie Gaskins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Craig Gaskins, and is survived by her brother, Gary Gaskins. Peggy will be remembered for her warm heart, generous spirit, and genuine kindness that touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Peggy is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Phillip Amerson; her son, Chris Chandler (Shauna); her stepdaughters, Brooke Hand (Jimmy) and Nichole Devinney; and her four cherished granddaughters, Ava Chandler, Taylor Hand, Madison Hand, and River Devinney. Her family was the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
Throughout her career, Peggy was admired for her professionalism, welcoming smile, and caring nature. She began her career as a receptionist with Norman Kellum, later worked with Ward and Smith, and retired from Eastern Aviation Fuels. Along the way, she earned the respect of her coworkers and formed many lasting friendships.
Above all, Peggy was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother. She found her greatest joy in caring for the people she loved, always placing their needs before her own. Whether spending time at the beach, relaxing on the water, or gathering with family and friends, Peggy embraced every opportunity to create lasting memories.
She especially enjoyed opening her home to those she loved. An exceptional cook with a gift for decorating, Peggy created a warm and welcoming place where everyone felt like family. From holiday celebrations to simple family dinners and casual visits, she had a remarkable ability to make every gathering feel special. Her home was filled with love, laughter, and the kind of hospitality that made everyone feel welcome.
Peggy's gentle spirit, selfless heart, and unwavering love for her family and friends will never be forgotten. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, generosity, and treasured memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life honoring Peggy will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 11:00 am at Spring Garden Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:30 am, prior to the service.
Peggy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
