Rayna Elizabeth Novash, 21, of New Bern, sadly left her family too soon.

Rayna was a free spirit that lived life to the fullest. Her heart was as big as her personality. Rayna had a smile and a contagious laugh that could fill a room. She was a friend to all. Rayna attended West Craven High School where she excelled in chorus. Rayna had a talent with hair and makeup and an amazing voice. Rayna will be truly missed by all, but will live in our hearts forever. To know you are finally home gives us peace. Today you'll run barefooted because there are no "nuggies" in Heaven.

Rayna is survived by her mother, Tabbatha Patterson and fiancé, Michael Moody, of New Bern and father, Travis Novash, of New Bern; step-dad, Ian Patterson, of Vanceboro; sisters, Makenna and Saylor, of the home; grandparents, Lisa Jones, Rodney Welch, and Belinda Massengill; step-grandparents, Thomas Todaro and Brenda Vest; great grandparents, William and Aleta Welch; aunts, Nina Albright, Barbara Adams, Alison Welch, Catey Welch, Conice Welch, and Rachael Farr; uncles, Daniel Welch, Benjamin Welch, Noah Massengill and Tony Massengill; cousins, Cody, Austin, Ashlin, Brody, Chloe, and Corbin.

She is preceded in death by great grandfather, Frank Causey; great grandmother, Peggy Allmond; and uncle, Sam Carrow.

A Celebration of Rayna's Life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 1:00 PM and the family will receive visitors following the service.

Arrangements are held by Cotten Funeral Home and Crematory.

I simply want to share with the family that while I never met Rayna, I feel your grief and loss. We are blessed that our Elizabeth was found and that the man who took her from her family... her children... will stand trial.

I have you all in my prayers, that Rayna and her family will get answers and see justice meted out. I pray for you to have some peace in your storm, some quiet in the chaos and comfort in the knowledge That Rayna is in His everlasting care.

Know that you are not alone.

Though I didn’t get to know you in this life I hope you are with Him who made you now. See you one day when we all sit down together at the table there. Love to you and your mama.

From the time Rayna was a little girl, she had a compassionate, soft heart. I had a special bond with her, as she and her mom lived with us for about a year when she was about 4. She spent some time occasionally later with me. As we would go to church she was always receptive of prayer. I talked with her almost every day For past 4 months and she would say pray for me. She was so special to me. My heart has empty place now for her. Love my “Raynie Day“
