

Richard Joseph Duggan entered this life May 15, 1930 in Scranton, PA. He was the only child of Joseph Leo Duggan and Evelyn Schuey Duggan. He attended St. Joseph’s High School in Williamsport, PA. Dick entered the Marine Corps in 1950 and was a tank commander during the Korean conflict.
After the war, Dick attended Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. While there, he met his future wife, Mary Louise, who was attending the Allentown Hospital School of Nursing. After both of their graduations, Dick began teaching History in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Later, he accepted a sales position with Trojan Powder Company back in Allentown, PA. These earlier positions served him well as he went on to become Director of Sales Training for Mack Trucks, Inc, World Headquarters. He retired from Mack in 1995. They chose to retire in the Fairfield Harbour community of New Bern. Here, Dick enjoyed his love of golf.
Dick’s long membership in the Knights of Columbus began at Saint Catherine’s Cathedral where he enjoyed serving the Sunday breakfast with the Men of The Cathedral. Here, Dick attended St. Paul’s Catholic Church and as a 3d Degree Knight, he enjoyed meeting people and helping with the Bingo games on Monday nights. Richard joined American Legion Post 539 and was a faithful member of that post, regularly attending the meetings until his health began to fail.
Richard went to be with the Lord on June 26, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise, their son Joseph Kevin of Hatfield, Pennsylvania, granddaughter Kelly Duggan of Denver, Colorado and grandson Michael Joseph Duggan of Detroit, Michigan.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 12 noon at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 3005 Country Club Road. Mass will follow at the church, beginning at 1 p.m. and interment will be immediately after at St. Joseph Cemetery on the church grounds.
Memorial donations can be made to St. Paul’s Catholic Church or Whitehurst – Ware American Legion Post 539 in New Bern, North Carolina.
