Richard Wolcott McEnally died Sunday, September 12, 2021. The son of Charles William McEnally and Mary Katherine Wooldridge McEnally, he was born March 2, 1942 in Philadelphia. He was raised in New Bern, North Carolina, and graduated from New Bern High School in 1960. He received a baccalaureate degree from Washington and Lee University in 1964, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa honorary fraternity and Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity. He was awarded a Masters of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina—Chapel Hill in 1965, and a PhD in finance from UNC in 1969. He was on the faculty of the School of Business at the University of Texas—Austin and for many years the Kenan Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina—Chapel Hill, where he retired in 2001 as the Meade Willis Professor of Investment Banking. He is survived by [his wife, Rebecca Todd McEnally, his children, Charles McEnally, Margaret McEnally, Bennett Todd, Anne Rosenthal (Steven), two grandchildren, John Rosenthal and Leslie Rudd, and his sister and brother-in-law Susan and James Cook. Services will be private. He wished that it be said of him that he died learning.
