
Dick, as he was known to many, was born in Brooklyn N.Y. to Richard and Ellen Mooney. He was raised in the Bronx most of his young life. After serving in the Marines for 3 years Dick and his wife Lily moved to New Jersey to begin their family. Prior to retiring to New Bern 11 years ago, Dick was employed in various sales positions from publishing to Real Estate. He was also the owner of Poor Richards Pub in Bridgewater, N.J. from 1975 to 1981. Dick loved reading his morning newspapers and watching westerns on tv, but mostly Dick loved his family and many friends dearly and cherished the time he spent with them, especially with a good glass of scotch in hand.
Dick was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Francis Zatika and Nicholas Kennedy.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Lily Mooney, of New Bern; his children William Mooney and wife Kim of Stanton, N.J., Richard Mooney and wife Ursula of Manville, N.J., Colleen Hahn and husband Michael of Califon, N.J. and Christina Mooney of Annandale, N.J.; 5 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kyle and Samantha Mooney, Lindsey Nutter and Roxanne Zatika; 1 great-grandchild, Sohpia Nutter; his sister Eleanor Dunn and husband Edward of Oak Park, IL, his favorite sister-in-law Christina Daly of New Bern and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 11:00am at St. Paul Catholic Church in New Bern.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Home Care & Hospice, 1423A South Glenburnie Road, New Bern, NC 28562 or St. Paul Catholic Church Building Fund, 3005 Country Club Road, New Bern, NC 28562.
