Richard Walter Wern went to be with the Lord on 1/13/21. He lived in River Bend since 1989. Richard was born in Jersey City, New Jersey but moved to Long Island with his family shortly thereafter. He was a proud veteran of WWII. He worked for the FFA for 38 yrs. retiring as Chief of Flight Service in Roanoke, Va.
He loved his air traffic career which started at Kennedy Airport from its earliest beginnings. He loved to talk about his experiences there.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Janet L. Wern. They shared many happy times and much laughter.
He is also survived by his children: Robert Wern of Rehobath Beach, Delaware, Suzanne Martin (Mike), Mechanicsville, Va., Diana Johnis(Jim) Smithtown, N.Y. and a stepson, Alan Brooks Tuck of Roanoke, Va. He was very proud of the children.
He was also fortunate to have 2 grandsons and 2 granddaughters who presented him with 5 great grandchildren. He also has 2 beautiful great great grandbabies.
Although Dick had no living siblings, he is survived by his dear sisters in law, Grace Wern of Long Island, Elaine Drewry of Roanoke, Va., Brenda Heuneman (Bob) of Chesapeake, Va. , and Nancy Ferebee (Don) of Falls Church, Va.
He had many loving nieces and nephews and special friends and neighbors, especially Ms. Barbara Turner.
He would want to mention his kind and expert physicians, Dr. John McQuade and Dr. Whitmore. There are others too. His favorite thing in later years was to go his favorite spot, Sweet Peas.
A memorial Service will be held at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church on Friday, January 22, 2021 at 1:00pm.
