Robert Steven Joiner

He served our country in the U.S. Marine Corp serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He received numerous awards and decorations, among them,a Bronze Star for Valor, and a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Newport Moose Lodge No. 2194. Steve’s interests included, country music, dancing, NASCAR, and fishing with his good friend, Gene Bowen. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Doris F. Joiner and their sons, Mike and Marty Joiner, and his second wife, Peggy Harper Joiner, and one brother, Pete Chauncey.

Steve is survived by two daughters, Sherry L. Mingione and husband Richard of Lambertville, MI; and Debbie Joiner of Toledo, OH; two sisters, Jackie Pittman and Ella Mae Cassels, both of Florida; his grandchildren, Steve, Nick, Mike and Leslie Mingione, Holly Queen Johnson, BJ Tsou, Alicia Carlan, Kassidy Rush, and ten great-grandchildren.

Services will be held 10:30 Friday, December 21, 2012 at Cotten Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at New Bern National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 pm on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the funeral home.
