Roland E. Hill, Jr., 93, of New Bern, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 29th, 2021. A native of Craven County, he was born on January 20th, 1928 to his parents, the late Roland E. Hill, Sr. and Mary E. Simpson Hill.
Roland retired from Cherry Point as the Budget Director of NADEP after more than 40 years of service. He also worked repairing instruments for Barbour Boatworks and enjoyed repairing televisions as well. Roland finished his working career at Coldwell-Banker as a realtor. He was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was involved in many of its activities. He loved sailing, camping with his grandchildren, and loved his family more than life itself. Roland loved people and never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Frances Hill, in 1988; and his sister, Mary Ellen Moffitt.
He is survived by his daughter, Debra H. Register Fredricks (Ken); his son, Roland E. Hill, III (Tom); his companion of 30 years, Lucy Dicktel; his grandchildren, Linwood R. Fulcher (Crystal), Joey Register (Ashley), John Register (Shannon), Kevyn Fulcher (Kimberly); his great grandchildren, Hailee, Bryana, Taylor, Logan, Braydin, Wesley, Kellyn, Brycen, and Kacey; one great great granddaughter, Bella; and four nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 4th at Cotten Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 5th at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Bryan Huffman and Reverend Bob Shields officiating. He will be laid to rest at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Trinity United Methodist Church Men's Club.
