

She was a member of Spring Garden Baptist Church since 1955 and served as a Trustee, Secretary of the Larry Pate Sunday School Class, a Counter, Prayer Warrior and Head of the Seniors. She was also on the Long Range Planning Committee and Personnel Committee and was involved in the Grow Program. She was active as the Women’s Missionary Union Director for many years and served on the Disaster Relief Team traveling to Texas.
Mrs. Amerson worked in many capacities at Belk though out the years. She also owned the Thrifty Fabric Store and catered weddings.
She is preceded in death by her son-in-law, William Barnes.
She is survived by her husband, Jesse “Jay” Amerson; sons, Robert Amerson and wife, Sue of Greenville and Phillip Amerson and wife, Peggy of New Bern; daughter, Rhonda Barnes of New Bern; brother, James Small of Cove City; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Cotten Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Spring Garden Baptist Church. Interment will be at Spring Garden Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Spring Garden Baptist Church Building Fund, 650 Spring Garden Road, New Bern, NC 28562.
