Ruth was an avid and talented artist. She won a Salamagundi Scholarship and briefly studied under Cliff Young. Internationally known George Gach was a great influence and encouragement in her painting career. Etching also interested her and she studied with Ruth Leaf a master of intaglio. She taught oil painting at the Craven Community College for the past 20 years. She always tried to instill upon her students the importance of careful observation.
To quote Ruth: "I take great pride in being a self taught artist and was interested in painting since early childhood. I was fortunate enough to be employed by the world famous Joel Meisner Art Foundry in New York. This is where I met many famous artists. It seemed the more famous they were the more free they were with their advice. A day never went by with out learning something new. It was like having private lessons from many of the very best teachers and artists.
I retired early to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a full time artist. I am no longer pressured to earn a living so that my goal is to turn out the very best paintings that I am capable of doing. The "American Artists Professional League" has honored me by accepting me as a member of their art club.
Painting has always been a challenge. It is never boring, there is always something new to explore. Whether it be a new tube of paint or a new brush. The time of day changes everything and so does the time of year."
