Samuel "Sammy" Lee Adams Jr., age 67, of Cove City, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Sammy was born in Craven County on December 11, 1957 to Samuel Lee Adams, Sr. and Reba Amerson Adams.
Sammy graduated from West Craven High School. After graduation he continued farming with his father. After hurricane Bertha and Fran, Sammy was forced to quit farming. He later worked at Hatteras yachts and Craven County Schools bus garage. But he always went back to farming. He worked for several years on the farm for his cousin Gary Amerson. Sammy's heart has always been in farming, and he was happiest on his John Deere. Sommer, Kyle, Waylon and Nancy spent many hours riding on equipment with him.
Through the years Sammy enjoyed deer hunting, deep sea fishing and playing golf and cooking pigs for family celebrations. He also enjoyed his "natural lights" and Marlboro's. Sammy didn't like traveling far from home very often, but he loved spending time at the "cottage" on the Neuse River.
Sammy met the love of his life in 1978. He and Nancy dated for five years before marrying in February of 1983. Two years later came Sommer and three years later came Kyle. Twentynine years later came his little buddy Waylon.
Sammy's relationships with his family were complicated. With all that we have been through, all the hurt and struggles, we are still grateful we had you for a while. Loving you changed our lives, losing you did the same.
Sammy is survived by his wife Nancy, son Samuel "Kyle" Adams, grandson Waylon Mills, honorary son Kenny Koonce, sister Nancy Hawkins and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his daughter Sommer, his parents Tom and Reba Adams, and his sister Dale Dawson.
Nancy and Kyle would like to thank Dr. Lee, the Heart Center, the many doctors, nurses and support staff who worked very hard to treat Sammy for the last four and a half months.
A Celebration of Sammy's Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made in his honor to the American Heart Association.
Cotten Funeral Home is honored to serve the family and friends of Samuel "Sammy" Lee Adams, Jr.
