

She retired from Sprint phone company after many years of faithful service. After retirement, Scarlott was able to put more time into her church and her family, countless time being her grandchildren’s number one fan and cheerleader. Always there for a big hug and “great job”. Scarlott enjoyed her annual trips with her sisters and always enjoyed being around all her family and friends. She was an avid Carolina Tarheel fan.
She is preceded in death by her parents Marion and Libbie Morton and siblings Marion D. Morton (Junior), Edward Earl Morton, Peggy Dixon and Nancy Equils.
She is survived by her sons Merle L. (Buddy) Nay, III (Kelly) of Newport, Charles “Chop” Nay, Sr. (Deena) of New Bern, Clifton Nay of Havelock and William M. Nay (Nikki) of New Bern; daughter Kimberly N. Moran of New Bern; sisters Joann Arnold, Mollie Tripp (James Sr.), Suzie Baldree (Rex) and Linda Hill (Larry) all of New Bern; grandchildren Nikki Moran, Merle L. Nay, IV, Samuel Nay, Olivia Nay, Briana Nay, Elizabeth Nay, Destinee Nay, Charles “C.J.” Nay, Jr., Lydia Kronenberg, Emmett Nay, and Jonathan Keel, III; and one great-grandchild Payton Williams.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Cotten Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday, March 3 from 6-8 pm at Cotten Funeral Home.
