She was born on January 7 to her parents Clark and Kathryn Martin of Columbus, OH.
After graduating Bexly High School, she attended Capital University for a short period of time. She ultimately met and married her husband to be, Benford Johnson, who she met at the small diner where she worked in Columbus. They enjoyed the beach lifestyle of Merritt Island, Florida raising their three children.
After the loss of her husband of over 57 years, she relocated to New Bern, NC to be closer to her daughters. She enjoyed being a local member of the Coatan Presbyterian Church, Twin Rivers Quilting Guild and the Red Hat Society.
Over the years, she enjoyed reading scores of books, playing Yahtzee and Solitaire, and cheering on her beloved Ohio State Buckeyes during the football seasons. She was an avid golfer scoring more than a few coveted "holes in one" back in the day.
But her largest passion was her love for quilting which she dedicated countless hours to creating numerous works of art. Receiving one of her pieces of art as a present was truly a gift to cherish.
She is survived by her remaining children, Lynda and Patty; as well as her biggest beloved little buddy, Hans (her 16-year-old dachshund). Her death was preceded by that of her parents Clark and Kathryn Martin, her brother, James Martin, as well as her son Matt in 1979.
Cotten Funeral Home is honored to serve the family and friends of Sue M. Johnson.
