Thomas "Tom" Herman Johnson

Tom was a 1962 graduate of Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in marketing. From June 1962 to September 1964, Tom attended the U.S. Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island and served in the USS Georgetown (AGTR-2), as a First and Second Division Officer. In September 1964, Tom transferred to U.S. Naval Propellant Plant as a military personnel officer in Indian Head, Maryland. In March of 1966, he was released from active reserves as a Lieutenant.

Following his career in the military, Tom began working as a salesman for several corporations including International Harvester, Johnson & Towers, and Barr International. From there he transitioned to not only the sale of hydraulic, pneumatic and vacuum equipment, but also designed fluid power systems for industrial, commercial and marine applications. After Tom retired, he opened his own business, Fluid Power Consulting and Training, LLC. When Tom was not working, he enjoyed sailing, carpentry, gardening, Amateur Radio, British sports cars, and volunteering at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Above all, Tom enjoyed spending time with his family who will greatly miss him.

Leaving behind to honor and cherish Tom's life, legacy, and memories are his loving wife of 45 years, Maria Johnson; son, Eric Johnson; grandsons, Drew Johnson (Isabel), Bryson Johnson, and Cooper Johnson; great-grandson, Grayson Johnson; sister, Judy Klus (Steve); and many loving family members and close friends.

In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his son, baby Christopher Johnson and sister, Carol Brown and her husband, Barry.

Cremation by Cotten Funeral Home and Crematory, New Bern, NC.

Interment will be private at a later date.
