Tommy Dale Book

Tommy Dale Book departed this earth for his heavenly home on Saturday, April 18, 2020. He died at home after a long battle with heart failure. He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald R. and Evelyn Eubanks Book of Havelock. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 25 years, Rebecca (Becky) Wallace Book of New Bern. He is also survived by a sister, two aunts, two uncles, and a number of cousins in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Mississippi. He also leaves a multitude of friends, including lifelong brothers from other mothers, Bobby Hill of Morehead City and Michael Moore of New Bern.

Tom is described by those who knew him best as a faithful friend, always ready to help as needed. His sweet smile, affable manner, positivity, and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. He could always be counted on for a joke or funny anecdote.

Tom was born on January 15, 1964 in Erie, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Havelock High and experienced a long and successful career in the roofing industry, learning drafting from his Uncle Jim, and beginning his lifelong work in his Cousin Glenn’s employ at Block Roofing Company of Virginia Beach. He rose to be well valued and respected by his employers and co-workers. He was last employed by Curtis Construction in Kinston, NC, welcomed there as a member of the Ken Tetterton family.

Tommy followed professional wrestling and was an avid NASCAR fan, attending several races during his lifetime. His greatest joy in later years was Becky’s Beach Cabana in Goose Creek. Tom and Becky spent most weekends and holidays at their park model at the resort, enjoying countless sunsets.

A faithful Christian and member of Croatan Church of Christ in New Bern, he is now at home with our Lord waiting to be reunited with his many friends and family.

The family hopes to hold a Celebration of Life once the current health crisis ends. He will be interred in a private ceremony at Canady Cemetery, Newport.
