Tommy graduated from Glenville high school. From the early to mid 1960’s he was employed by Hatteras Yachts in High Point, NC. where he started in the cabinet shop as an apprentice and later became the supervisor. From the late 1960’s to the 1970’s he transferred and moved his family to New Bern, NC to be the plant superintendent at Hatteras Yachts. In the 1980’s and 1990’s, he was the plant manager of Uniflite in Swansboro, NC and Bellingham, WA. He also managed the production facilities of Chris Craft in Holland, MI and later in Bradenton, FL. He eventually retired and returned to his beloved mountains and resided in Brevard, NC. Later in life, he moved back to the New Bern area to be closer to his children and their families. He loved watching golf, especially later in his life with his good friend and son in law Carl. Tommy was an honest and fair man, with a strong work ethic that he instilled in all of his children.
