Vernon Lee Hood

Vernon Lee Hood, 87, of New Bern, died Tuesday March 25 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport. Vernon served his country in the Navy, and in the National Guard for over 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing,dancing and gardening. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Hood of New Bern; a son Vernon Lee Hood, Jr and his wife Deborah, of Walkertown, NC; a sister Dorothy Johnson of Asheboro, NC; a granddaughter Jessica Hood, of Winnabow, NC; step-daughters Nancy Scott and her husband Steve of Tampla, Fl and Deanna Bobbitte and her husband Jerry, of New Bern.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 27 at 2:00 pm at Greenleaf Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crystal Coast Hospice House 100 Big Rock Weigh Newport, NC 28570 or to Liberty Medical Specialties 202 Penny Lane, Morehead City, NC 28557

Arrangements are being handled by Cotten Funeral Home and Crematory.

My uncle Vernon was a great man - came out of the Great Depression, part of the greatest generation, and created a wonderful life for his family and himself. We are so glad that we were able to visit him in 2011. We will miss him. Our prayers are with his family and friends.

Uncle Vernon was very special. We are very thankful he found love abundantly as he deserved it very much. To know his last years were joyous is a comfort at this time. To all the family, we grieve with you and miss you very much. We have wonderful memories of our times in Wilson with everyone.
