

One of five children of the late attorney Charles Ambrose Malloy and the former Ann Eliza Thomas, Winnie was born on February 14, 1929 in Trenton, N.J. and grew up in Point Pleasant on the New Jersey shore.
Winnie graduated from Point Pleasant High School in 1946 with honors as class valedictorian, and Phi Beta Kappa from Douglass College (Class of 1950). She received her Master's Degree in English literature in 1970 from the State University of NY at Albany.
She married Thomas R Miller Jr. in 1950 at Woodlawn-Douglass College Alumni House in New Brunswick, N.J. They lived in Providence and Newport, R.I. while Tom was serving in the Navy. During that time, Winnie held several administrative positions at Rutgers and at Brown University.
In 1956, when Tom left the Navy, they moved to Burnt Hills, N.Y. where they lived for thirty years and raised their family. After her husband retired from General Electric in 1986 they moved to River Bend-New Bern, N.C. where they resided until her death.
Winnie's passions were baking, needle work, and music. She served as President of the New Bern Embroiderer's Guild of America, and was an accomplished pianist, clarinetist, and saxophone player. Winnie organized, played in and managed Glenn Miller size Swing Bands in Burnt Hills, N.Y. and New Bern, N.C.
An active member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Burnt Hills, N.Y., she taught Church School and was assistant to the parish minister. In New Bern, she attended Christ Episcopal Church, and was a member of the River Bend Golf and Country Club.
Winnie is survived by her husband, Tom; her son Thomas C Miller and wife Suzanne (Corinth, N.Y.), Karen Miller Grady and husband Sean (Wailuku, Hawaii), and Keith D Miller (Atlanta, Ga.); three grandchildren-Benjamin Miller, Dr. Linda Miller, LTJG Daniel Miller; and two great grand children-Andrew and Hailey Miller, and a brother William Malloy.
She was loved and will be missed by all that knew her.
Tom, her loving husband of 62 years, will miss her total beauty and charm most of all.
Winnie's friends are warmly invited to join her family in a Celebration of Her Life in Christ at a service to be held at Christ Episcopal Church Pollock Street New Bern at 11 a.m. on September 29, 2012. A reception will follow the service.
Burial will take place at Calvary Episcopal Church in Burnt Hills, N.Y. at 1 PM on October 20th with a reception after the service. There will also be another burial service at sunset on Kapalua Bay November 22nd in Maui, Hawaii.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Winnie's memory to the Alzheimer's Association , United Hospice, Christ Church, Calvary Church or other favorite charity.
