Alice Pauline (Brotze) Staats of New Braunfels, went to be with her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ at 7:25 AM on January 13, 2018, in her daughter’s home. She attended school at Converse, a rural three classroom schoolhouse, which was a distance of 2 1/2 miles from home. She and her brothers and sister walked every morning and afternoon.
During the summers young Alice picked cotton. She remembered how proud she was when she was able to pick a hundred pounds a day. This was very hard work, and Alice worked beside her parents and siblings. The children got paid 50 cents per hundred pounds. This money was saved, so she could buy one pair of shoes for school in the fall.
During the World War II years, Alice worked at “Comet Hosiery” plant as a “LEGGER” and knitted stockings. This was originally done by men, but the men were all gone to war. The pay was good. Raymond and Alice returned to New Braunfels after they both retired. In 1987 Alice became an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She enjoyed serving the Lord as a volunteer in the church office, Stephen Ministry, Bereavement Ministry, and Memorial Committee. Her relationship with our Lord continued to grow as she studied the Bible in different Bible study groups. Alice loved worshipping our Lord with others at church.
Alice has fond memories as a member of the F.O.E Auxiliary for 30 yrs. She served on many different committees, offices, and President of the local auxiliary. During these retirement years, she also served as a volunteer for 20 years at the McKenna Hospital. Alice celebrated life and looked for the best in every situation.
Alice’s personal interests were reading Christian books, volunteering, traveling with Raymond throughout the United States, cooking, baking, crocheting, playing bunco and dominoes.
