

Rev. Almon Don Norris peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, August 30, 2010. Almon was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Elizabeth Norris; son, S. Don Norris; brothers, Calvert and Carl Norris and his sister, Barbara Craig.
He is survived by his son, Richard Norris and wife Fran; daughter, Margie Callihan; daughter-in-law, Debra Norris; sister, Louise Grass; brother, Bob Norris; his grandchildren, Jim Norris and wife Ellen, Holly Brown and husband Craig, Jonathan Norris, Mike Norris and wife Krista, Gerald Stanton, Jr. and wife Heather, Brad Stanton, Randy Stanton and wife Beth; sixteen great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Rev. Norris was born on the 5th of December in Kemp, Oklahoma. He grew up in the Texas Panhandle near Perryton where he finished high school. In 1937 he graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. He obtained a master of Theology degree from Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth in 1939. In recognition for his outstanding contributions to his church, community and denomination he was conferred the honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree at the University of Corpus Christi in August, 1958. Rev. Norris was a full time minister for nearly 50 years with many of those years in Corpus Christi, TX at Travis Baptist and Tuloso-Midway Baptist Church (now Gateway Baptist). He also was pastor of churches in Lovington, New Mexico, Kansas City, Missouri, Weslaco, TX. and Ft. Worth, TX. Almon and Evelyn moved to New Braunfels, TX. in 1996 to be closer to their son, Don. Almon has resided in Eden Hill in New Braunfels since 2003. The family would especially like to thank the staff of Unit 6 of Eden Hill for their loving care.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the Zoeller Funeral Home. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2010 in the Zoeller Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in the Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. The family has requested that memorial contributions be given to the Eden Hill Communities, 631 Lakeview Blvd., New Braunfels, Texas 78130 or charity of one’s choice.
