1925-2017
Benjamin G. Owen was born on January 19, 1925, and passed away on June 25, 2017. Ben was one of four children born to Benjamin and Ermyn Mansger Owen. At an early age, the Owen family moved to the island of Aruba. Ben spoke often of the many grand adventures that he and his sisters experienced as children on island in the Caribbean. One of Ben’s favorite memories was of the trips he and his father would take to Caracas, Venezuela for supplies once a month.
The Owen family moved back to the states in late 1930’s to Texas City, Texas. Ben graduated from High School there in 1942 and soon enlisted in the Army Air Corp, and was assigned to the 15th. Ben flew 50 combat missions in Italy and Romania.
Upon returning to Texas, Ben met and married Fay Herrington. Ben and Fey were blessed with two children soon thereafter, Sherry and Gary.
Ben worked at Union Carbide in Texas City as a Draftsman for many years and retired. Ben also worked at Allstate Engineering, a subsidiary of DuPont, as a Project Cost Estimator for an additional 10 years.
Ben loved his life, his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. He was a modest, unassuming man, who lived and experienced extraordinary events in his life.
Ben is survived by his two sisters Dorothy (Dottie) Miller and Alice Bailey; daughter Sherry Walker; son Gary Owen and his wife Terri; grandson Robert Owen Walker and his wife Megan; granddaughter Jennifer Nieri and her husband Caleb Nieri; and great-granddaughter Gwendolyn Walker.
A Funeral Service will be held at Zoeller Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017.
