

She was born April 23, 1930 in Fashing, Texas to Herbert C. and Elnora “Nora” (Kruse) Jonas. Sometime later the family moved to New Braunfels, where both the Jonas and Kruse ancestors had deep roots in Comal County all the way back in the mid to late 1800s.
As a young teen, she worked for the Naeglin’s Bakery where she met the love of her life George William “Bill” Leader, who was stationed at the San Marcos Army Airfield. They were married on February 14, 1945.
She and Bill were married 60 years and had previously lived in Enid, OK; Wooster, OH; and Austin, TX before moving to San Antonio. Bernie Ruth enjoyed homemaking and crafting. She was an excellent oil painting artist and also loved ceramics and decoupage.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; sister, Nora Gene (Jonas) White of New Braunfels; and brother, Herbert M. Jonas of Fairfield.
She is survived by her three children and spouses: Bill and Becca Leader of Bandera; Richard Leader of San Antonio; and Susan and Kenneth Stout of Spring; six grandchildren: Jennifer, Christy and (spouse Jimmy), Charlie, Matthew (spouse Leandra), Jacob, and Chris (spouse Jessica); four great-grandchildren: Ignacio, Phoenix, Christopher Jr., and Adeline; a host of nieces and nephews, along with beloved neighbors and friends.
