Services will be held for Mr. Brian Scott Read at 11:00AM, Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Oakwood Baptist Church in New Braunfels. Officiating will be Jim O’Neal, a longtime friend of the family. Visitation will precede the service from 10-11AM at Oakwood Baptist Church. He entered into rest on Monday, July 11, 2022, in his home after a 3 and 1/2 year battle with renal cell carcinoma.
Mr. Read was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and spent his later years in New Braunfels, Texas. He joined the military when he was 18 and served as a Sergeant in the 156 Infantry for 8 years, acting as a medic and a Humvee Driver. Following his military service, he became an Electronic Systems Analyst (ESA) for the National Weather Service where he served for 30 years. He was known for being a kind and generous man who loved his family and friends very much. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather (Paw-Paw), uncle, and friend. Many people have benefited from Brian’s comedic and encouraging spirit throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents James Thomas Shirley, Elsie Faye Shirley, Louis Franklin Read, and Lanet Keen Read.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years Lisa Read, son Austin Read and wife Kaylee of New Braunfels, Texas, and was to be blessed with a grandson he recently found out about, Oliver Scott Read. He is survived by father Doug Read and mother Barbara Read, aunt Brenda Dhaini and husband Fauzi, brother Mike Read and wife Leigh Ann, sister Julie Coleman and husband Billy, nieces Haleigh Read, Katie Read, Maggie Coleman, Sarah Coleman, sister-in-law Teri Parnell and husband Brad, niece Kassie Ford and husband Blake, nephew Grant (G-Dog) Parnell and wife Payton, and his great nephew and niece, Karston Peace and Adley Ford.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Brian’s son, Austin, for caring for him selflessly throughout his journey with cancer, Oakwood Baptist Church, the Mother’s Day Out Staff at Oakwood Baptist Church, Nancy and Chuck Waite for generously lending them their condo in Houston for Brian’s treatments, Dr. Luis Rodriguez, Dr. Jason Nelson, the MD Anderson Staff, the Hope Hospice Staff, and the friends and family that supported them with meals, prayers, and encouragement throughout his battle.
Memorials may be made to Oakwood Baptist Church or to the Kidney Cancer Association.
