Carol Carmen (Lombardo) Carlson, 76, passed away on Saturday, December 28th after a 20 year battle with Huntington’s Disease. She was born on November 23, 1937 in Los Angeles, California to Marion (Killion) and Maurice Lombardo and raised to adulthood by her grandparents, Pearl (Jenkins) and Shelley Killion. In addition to California, Carol lived in New Mexico and Texas during her early years, and graduated from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, TX in 1955. On a trip to visit her aunt in New Braunfels during her senior year, Carol met Harold Carlson and the two were married on February 11, 1955. Carol spent the next 20 years as a military wife and mother, raising the couple’s 3 children while she accompanied her husband to Dow AFB, Maine, Ernest Harmon AFB, Newfoundland, Lockbourne AB, Ohio, Tachikawa AB, Japan, and Forbes AFB, Kansas, before settling down in the New Braunfels area. Wherever the location and in sometimes difficult circumstances, Carol always created a happy and healthy home for her family. When her marriage to Harold ended after 20 years, Carol worked in retail until she began a career as a Department of the Army civilian at Brooke Army Medical Center where she worked in the Pathology Department until 1989. She was a member of the Oakwood Baptist Church.
Carol is survived by her 3 children: Kay Garsnett (Rick), David Carlson (Kathryn), Suzanne Duval (Steve); 5 grandchildren: Kristal Sands (Kevin), Jeff Garsnett, Katrina Childress (Jason), Kelsey Jenkins (Jason), Sarah Carlson; 7 great-grandchildren: Andrew Cowan, Abigail Sands; Sierra, Conner, and Wesley Garsnett; Emily and Tessa Childress; one sister, Barbara Strickland (Gary); and other family members.
