Carolyn Joy Skov (nee Rummel), 85 of New Braunfels, Tx was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on Monday September 18, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born on September 11, 1938 in Vernon, Tx to Robert and Blandine Rummel. Carolyn was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Carolyn is survived by her loving husband, Norv Skov and her children Natalie Harvill (Lewis), Chris Skov (Chrissandra), and Valerie Perry (Kevin). She also leaves her cherished grandchildren Nicole Alderson (Josh), Rachel Assmussen (Scott), Joshua Eli Harvill, Matthew Melloy, Jeffrey Melloy (Victoria), Ashley Evans (Beau), Alyssa Perry, Wyatt Skov and Dylan Skov as well as seven great grandchildren.
Carolyn had a passion for education and dedicated her career to teaching. She began her career in 1958 as a 1st grade teacher at Cross Lutheran where she met her husband Norv. The two were married on March 28, 1959. The couple moved to Giddings and then California where Carolyn continued teaching parochial school. Carolyn and Norv returned to Texas in 1962 where she resumed teaching at Cross Lutheran. In 1972 she became the director of Cross Preschool where she developed the curriculum and obtained state licensure for the program. Carolyn transitioned to the public education sector in 1982, teaching 2nd grade in Seguin ISD. She later joined New Braunfels ISD where she taught 4th grade for 11 years before retiring in 1994.
Carolyn had a deep and lasting faith in our Lord and was a witness of that faith throughout her life. She served with her husband as a missionary in both Brazil and Vietnam where she taught English. Through this she was able to witness the love of Christ to many who may not have known of His love. Carolyn loved her family dearly and cherished any moment she had with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carolyn was the epitome of “joyful living” and spread that joy through her words of encouragement, expression of faith or simply with her contagious smile. Carolyn’s legacy will be remembered through her dedication to education, her love of her family and her unwavering faith.
