Celia Moreno Barboza, 94 of New Braunfels, went to be with our Lord on August 21, 2014. She was a life time resident of New Braunfels born to Juan and Teresa Moreno on July 20, 1920. Celia married Viviano Barboza on May 2, 1942 and together they had 4 sons and a wonderful daughter.
Celia worked at Cater Frock Dress Co before she and her husband Viviano opened El Capricho Drive-In Restaurant 1958. In the early seventies the restaurant was rented out and Celia worked at the Miracle Sweater Plant, then in the ‘80s she returned to her profession as a cook for the Krause’s Café for several years.
Celia’s style of batch or family cooking was true to our Mexican-American tradition. After she worked at Krause’s Café, Celia would sometimes include side dishes like German potato salad or slaw with the main entrée when preparing dinner for her family. In some families life is grand and the memories of Ama’s love are unforgettable.
Celia was a member of La Union Fundre de Padres Familiares for 70 years, member of the New Braunfels Mexican American Business Women during the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. She was a member of La Estrellita Club, she also enjoyed hobbies like going out dancing with her husband, creating artistic ceramics, flower arrangements, cake baking, sewing, solving those small family issues and building confidence. As a mother she cemented together the family so it could withstand the worst shocks and blows. Celia was a loving mother, grandmother and her house was always open to the family.
