Bill was one of my high school classmates.I have read with interest the comments of his former students.  Bill ,undoubtedly, lived a life with the qualities that I recall his having in high school,days.  To the family and friends, may God bless you.  Cherish your many fond memories .  God bless.

Coach Spears was known to be demanding. His drills were no place for a slacker. But under the surface was a deeply caring and compassionate man whose passion was to help young people find the best in themselves.

Coach Spears demanded just as much from himself. He worked hard as a coach and a teacher.  He made math interesting, even enjoyable, but I learned even more from seeing how he lived his life.

He was an excellent football coach, but an even better coach in life.

I’ve got some great memories of Coach. He was good head coach and a great defensive mind and, in spite of being short on talent a few years, he kept us in games we shouldn’t have been in. We, to this very day - 40 years later - still quote the old coach .  He was also my parent’s neighbor and friend. He and his lovely wife would drop off home-grown vegetables and check up on my mom and dad.  I used to see him walking....everywhere.....all over town!  The man loved to walk!  I will never forget him. Rest in Peace Coach Spears!  

Mr. Spears was my algebra teacher at Canyon High School.  Most importantly he and his wife are our neighbors.  We’d always see them walking every day and when summertime came he had the best tomatoes to share with us.  My mom is now elderly and she really enjoyed the short talks and fresh tomatoes from Mr. Spears.  Wonderful neighbors!  

Coach tutored me in algebra my senior year,I was on the verge of failing and math was my weakest subject.He spent hours with me
And I know it had to frustrate him,it would me.But I finally got it and I use math in my business everyday.I asked coach later on in life why he did that,he said'Stuman,you needed to graduate and I needed a running back.''I have never forgot  what he did for me,to this day I still benifit from the personal time he spent grinding numbers into my thick scull.
