Chase Cameron Howden, age 36, of Seguin, Texas, passed away on August 13, 2024, at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Seguin. Chase was born on March 25, 1988, in Conroe, Texas, to his loving parents, Jim and Darlene Howden. Chase was their oldest son, and eventually, big brother to brothers, Hunter and Carter.
Chase and his family lived much of his childhood in Round Rock, Texas, where he enjoyed playing soccer, baseball and basketball. Being a young outdoors enthusiast, Chase was in his element while hunting and fishing, as well as spending time at his aunt’s ranch in the Texas Hill Country. His passion for hunting and fishing continued through the years and he never missed an opportunity to bag a nice buck or hook a big bass, especially in the comradery of his two brothers and dad. Chase was particularly proud to be from such a large family and was genuinely fond of and interested in each-and-every one of his aunts, uncles and cousins. Spending holidays and special occasions with them was something Chase always looked forward to and treasured the memories made.
In high school, Chase enjoyed sports and played football and soccer. After graduating from Lumberton High School in 2006, he attended and graduated with a General Studies degree from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He worked in sales and was more recently employed by FallTech as their general sales manager.
While in college, Chase met the love of his life, Ofelia Pena. As their love for each grew, so did their family, and together they welcomed two precious sons, Hayes (2018) and Townes (2020). He was an amazing, loving and devoted husband and father. Chase and Ofelia enjoyed all that encompasses raising two young boys. They attended soccer and football practices and games; went to the nearest playgrounds; rode bikes around the neighborhood; splashed and floated in the water at Schlitterbahn; and frequently visited grandparents. Chase also passed on his love of fishing to his boys, teaching them to bait a hook and cast a line at the neighborhood pond.
Chase had a great personality, and his hardy laugh could be heard for miles! He was good-natured, humble, giving, witty, and enjoyed joking in a playful manner. When he first met Ofelia during a college communications class, Chase flirtingly enjoyed watching her struggle through her speeches, and sometimes teased her about always being late for class. Thus, their relationship began with a first date at a local pizza shop! Surprising Ofelia with flowers or small gifts brought joy to Chase. Because he was a history buff, Chase taught Ofelia at least one new history fact each day. Chase affectionately called Ofelia, “mi hermosa” or “my little, big girl”; and Ofelia referred to Chase as, “her man”!
He is survived by his loving wife, Ofelia Howden; sons, Hayes and Townes Howden; parents, Jim and Darlene Howden; brothers, Hunter Howden (Kali) and Carter Howden (Bridgette); father- and mother-in-law, Roger and Ofelia Pena; sister-in-law, Joisse Pena; brothers-in-law, Rogelio (Luz) and Christian Pena; nieces, Abigail and Elise Howden; nephews, Matthew, Josiah, Mason, and Maxon Pena; paternal grandparents, Jim and Ginny Howden; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family members. Chase is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Virginia Schilhab.
Visitation for Chase is Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 11:00 am, at Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa Street, New Braunfels, Texas, 78130, followed by a Memorial Service celebrating Chase’s life at 12:00 pm.
Being the giving person he was, Chase gave the gift of life to others by being an organ donor. Chase will be truly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him! The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center and Texas Organ Sharing Alliance for their compassionate care, empathy and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a 529 education savings account for Hayes and Townes Howden. If you would like to make a contribution, please contact Patti L. Ardoin, Financial Advisor, Edwards Jones, 8320 Louetta Road, Suite 110, Spring, Texas, 77379, 281-320-1031.
