He was born on September 2, 1960, in Lubbock, Texas, to Robbye Lee Thompson Snowden and Shannon Lowell Doss. David grew up in San Marcos and Plano, Texas, and graduated from Plano High School. He went on to attend Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University), where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a minor in Agricultural Business.
David married the love of his life, Elizabeth Erickson Doss, on October 24, 1987. Together they built a beautiful life and family. David is survived by his wife Elizabeth; daughter Lindsey Doss and her son Maxwell; son Payton Doss and his wife Gabby, and their children Elena and Cameron, all of New Braunfels. He is also survived by his sister, Debra Doss of Plano. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dayna Doss Parker.
David built a respected career in the animal health industry, where he worked for 40 years. He spent 18 years with Boehringer-Ingelheim, starting in sales, then the Marketing Product Manager at the home office in Missouri, and later as National Accounts Manager. The past 13 years were with Midwest Veterinary Supply as Regional Sales Manager. He received numerous awards and achievements throughout his career. Most recently, he was honored as the 2024 Regional Manager of the Year. He was a member of several professional organizations, including the South Texas Cattle Association, TVMA Advisory Board, and Comal County Veterinary Medical Association.
He served in so many leadership roles that we can’t list them all. David gave much of his time to the following organizations: Kappa Sigma, where he was awarded the Jim Turk Brown Award, served as the Grand Master of Ceremonies and pledge trainer, and later served as the Chapter Alumni Advisor; Wurstfest Association, where he served as Vice-Chair of Entertainment and on the Membership Committee, recently becoming a Senior Opa; and Mission Valley Bowling Club Board Member.
David's favorite pastimes included cheering on the Texas State Bobcats, nine-pin bowling (Bowl Weevils), getting beers with his friends (Friday Afternoon Club), golfing (Sunday golf buddies), fishing, golf cart rides, watching Texas Rangers baseball, and listening and dancing to old country music. He loved attending all things his children and grandchildren did. He was very respected and served as a mentor to many—whether it was at work, church, among his children's friends, or in one of the many organizations he was involved in.
He was deeply devoted to his faith in God and served as President of the Congregation at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Braunfels, where he also led the Partners in Faith Sunday School class and helped start a German Bible study. In the short time he lived in Rockwall, Texas, David had many close friendships and was very involved with the First United Methodist Church of Rockwall. David was a living example of a true Christian—kind, joyful, humble, and welcoming. He never met a stranger and was known as a "collector of people" with an unmatched ability to make everyone feel valued.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21st, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Braunfels, with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund and the Texas State Baseball organization—two causes close to David’s heart.
