Donald Ward Green, 89, died on April 14, 2019 in New Braunfels, TX. He was born in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, on June 2, 1929 to Ward and Edna (Arnold) Green. He graduated from Chagrin Falls High School in 1947 and from Ohio University in 1951 with a degree in journalism. He worked for the Daily Record in Wooster Ohio from 1951-1972 rising to the position of managing editor. In 1972 the family moved to Gallup, NM where he worked for the Gallup Independent as managing editor from 1972-1979 and again as news editor from 1983-1991. In the interim he worked at an advertising agency and as curator of the Red Rock Museum. Don married his college sweetheart, Mary Elizabeth Blaker, in 1950. They had two sons, Thomas and Kenneth. Don later married Ruth (Blaker) Lasure in 1997 and Mary Owen in 2017. He and Ruth moved to EdenHill in New Braunfels, Texas in 2002. Don was a man of many talents. He was a private airplane pilot and was notorious for bringing a motorcycle to the retirement village. He was a bass fiddle player; he played in a big band in college, a jazz combo in the Wooster, Ohio area and a blue grass group in Gallup, New Mexico. He volunteered for numerous organizations, including the Boy Scouts, the Lion’s Club, Poly Ryan Hospital, Disabled Vets, and EdenHill. He was a member of Faith UCC church serving on the administrative council and singing in the choir. Everyone who knew him liked him, as he was as kind hearted as he was intelligent and interesting. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Mary Elizabeth Green, second wife Ruth Lasure Green, and sister Jeanette Bertsch. He is survived by wife Mary Owen, son Thomas Green and his wife Mikki, son Kenneth Green and his wife Ramona, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Madison Lowry and the ICU team at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital for their excellent and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith UCC Church in New Braunfels or a charity of your choice. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, April 24 at 2pm in the Chapel at EdenHill. Reverends Sarah Currie and Scott Martin will officiate. Friends are invited to sign the guest book at
