

He was born in San Antonio, TX to Arthur and Dorothy Engelken. He graduated from St. Gerard High School, class of 1957. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army. A life long learner, he earned his BS and MS in Physics from St. Mary’s University and his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas, Austin. He worked at Brooks AFB School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM), for 33 years. He was an avid collector and restorer of antique and shortwave radios. He contributed several articles to Popular Communications magazine describing his restoration projects. He was also a hunter and gun enthusiast. He enjoyed watching Jeopardy and BattleBots and other robot fighting competitions. He was a loving husband and father and was married to his wife Dorothy for 65 years.
He was preceded in death by his son Stephen Engelken and brother Arthur Engelken. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Engelken, daughter Karen Biesenbach and son-in-law Brett, his son Thomas Engelken and daughter-in-law April, and his son Carl Engelken and daughter-in-law Melissa. He is also survived by his grandchildren Blaine Biesenbach, Mark Biesenbach, Corey Engelken, Claire Engelken, Crystal Engelken, Sarah Engelken, Joshua Engelken, great grandchildren Charlotte and Avery and his brother Charles Engelken.
Services will be held on May 19th at Holy Cross Cemetery, Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78266 with visitation starting at 10:30 am and funeral services starting at 11 am.
