Ed was born August 20, 1927 in Barron, Wisconsin to Arthur and Margaret (Verbeck) Roets. He was the oldest of four children and is survived by his sister, Mildred (Donald) Breitkreutz of Wisconsin. Ed was educated in Wisconsin and became a successful truck stop owner/operator in both Oshkosh and Madison, Wisconsin. He is survived by his four children, Patty (Gary) Williams of Reno, Peggy (George) Connor and Jim (Kimberly) Roets of Las Vegas, Nevada and Mary (Dan) Lenehan of Los Altos Hills, California.
Ed moved to Texas in the late 1960s continuing his truck stop career in the Midland-Odessa area and met Margaret to whom he has been married to for 38 years. He is survived by Margaret and her children Florence Llora, Maria Pennington, Adriana (Russell) McDonald of New Braunfels, Joseph (Vicki) Llora of Odessa, and Yolanda (James) Couch of Willis, Texas.
In his retirement Ed enjoyed woodworking and constructed furniture and countless toys for his numerous grandchildren in Nevada, California and Texas. Ed and Marge enjoyed traveling via their motorhome, cruising, visiting Marge’s native Philippines, and visiting family and friends across the country. They had a beautiful and loving relationship.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Robert Roets and Grace Reddlein, and Christopher Connor, his grandson.
The Family wishes to thank Alamo Hospice, especially Vicki Waldon, RN for the outstanding care provided to our beloved husband and father. Ed often stated in his final days, “I am not complaining” -- and this was due to the care provided by Florence Llora, his step-daughter, who tirelessly cared for Ed during his illness.
Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa, New Braunfels, Texas is handling the arrangements. A Rite of Christian Burial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Zoeller Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park in New Braunfels.
