Elpidio “Pio” Mata Garcia of New Braunfels, Texas passed away, surrounded by family, on Monday, September 21, 2026, at the age of 77. He was born in Dilley, Texas on August 9, 1949, to Gregorio D. Garcia and Petra M Garcia.
Pio met and married Carmen Urias Garcia in 1991. He worked for the city of New Braunfels for 35 years. Pio loved all outdoor activities like fishing, hunting, gardening, grilling, going to the swap meets and riding his Harley Davidson. He also enjoyed watching basketball (Spurs), football (Redskins), whistling his favorite tunes, and going to different casinos. Most of all Pio loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Pio was preceded in death by his parents Gregorio D Garcia and Petra M Garcia; brother, Everardo Garcia, Sr.; sister, Elvira Lopez; brother, Enebelio (Veo) Garcia; and great grandson, Isaac Armando Mesa
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carmen Urias Garcia; children, Petra Garcia (Tita), April Garcia Garza (Marco), Pearl Garcia, Marissa Martinez, and Melissa Valderrama (Nelson); his brothers and sisters, Ernesto Garcia (Anita, deceased), Elva Jimenez (Robert), Elmo Garcia (Annabelle), and Ercilia Garcia. He was also blessed with 21 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Grandsons- Domingo Elpidio Chavarria IV, Geoffrey Alexander Diaz, Isaac Mesa Jr, Andru Longoria, Josiah D'Andre Cerda, Jason Joe Ramos, Rylan Levi Hernandez, Ethan Valderrama, and Ewen Valderrama.
Visitation will be held at Zoeller Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 9:00 AM until Funeral Service and Rosary beginning at 10 AM. Burial will immediately follow at Comal Cemetery.
