

Elsie Clara Louise Wittig Bischoff was born on April 30, 1929, to Edna (Boerger) and Henry Wittig in Wharton County, Texas, and baptized on June 9, 1929 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wharton, Texas, where she was also confirmed in her Christian faith. The family of 7 moved to Marion, Texas in 1945 and became members of Cross Lutheran Church in New Braunfels, Texas. This is where she met her husband, Albert, a charter member of Cross.
She married Albert on January 1, 1949, and they were married until his death in 1982. They raised 3 children and she loved teaching Sunday School, gardening, sewing, and quilting. She worked at Neuse’s Grocery and Market, Comal Hosiery, and Cater Frock Dress Factory. Later, she enjoyed taking care of senior citizens, taking seniors to Cross Lutheran for worship, working with the quilting group at Cross, and being at family gatherings. In 2021, she moved to Heritage Place in Boerne where she lived for 5 years and recently moved back to New Braunfels to Dignity Care under the loving care of the Moore family, Tianna, and numerous caring nurses, aides, and chaplains from Hope Hospice.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Carol and Ed Mycock of Boerne, Ronald and Gaynella Bischoff of Canyon Lake, and Ralph and Darlene Bischoff of Seguin, grandchildren Heidi and David Yelverton, San Antonio, Nick and Toni Edwardson, Albuquerque, NM, Josh and Kylie Mycock, Bulverde, Andrea and David Miller, Rockport, Amanda and David Robitaille, San Antonio, and Statia Lewis, Alleyton, great grands, Andrew and Elizabeth Mucci, Lou and Simon Edwardson, Reese and Harper Mycock, Harley and Brandon Younts, Parker and Adasyn Hafley, Audrey Robitaille, Cheyenne Brown, great grandson, Elliot Quintero, brother and sister-in-law, Gilbert and Maydell Wittig, Calvert, sister-in-law, Evelyn Wittig, Saginaw, MI, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, 2 brothers, Alvin and Henry Wittig, 1 sister, Annie Bontke, 3 sisters-in-law, Ruth Wittig, Elizabeth Bischoff, Gladys Rust, 3 brothers-in-law, Herman Bontke, Edward Bischoff, Egon Rust, 1 grandson, York Hipp, and 1 granddaughter, Cassandra Delano.
Elsie remained faithful unto death and went to be with Jesus on June 24, 2026. She loved Lutheran hymns, and tried to sing along with Pastor Neil Vanderbush of Messiah Lutheran, Boerne, for the last 2 years of her life once she could no longer attend worship services.
Visitation with family will be on Thursday, July 2, from 10-11 at Cross Lutheran Church, 2171 Common Street, New Braunfels prior to the funeral which will begin at 11.
There will be a light reception served following interment at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park, 2951 TX 46, New Braunfels. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cross Lutheran Church, Hope Hospice, New Braunfels, or the charity of your choice.
