Elsie Mae Lehmann

It was only fitting that God called Elsie Mae Lehmann home on Christmas Eve, as it was one of her favorite days. Elsie was born in Mission Valley February 6, 1933, to Roland Behrendt and Estella Jonas Behrendt. She grew up on the Krueger Ranch and rode her horse “Champ” to school. She graduated in 1950 from New Braunfels High School.

She married Norman Lehmann, her beloved husband of 65 years on November 22, 1953. Together they had three children: Norman Lehmann Jr, and his wife Pamela; Gerald Keith Lehmann (Shorty) and his wife Irene; Elisa Lynn Van Dyke and her husband James. Elsie became a “Granny” when she was blessed with eight grandchildren who she cherished and adored: Trey, Devin, Crystal, Kendra, Kody, Kyle, Kelsey and husband Chase, and Lauren and husband James. Her blessings continued when she welcomed six amazing great grandchildren Zane, Kaitlyn, Colt, Madison, Emily, and James Wyatt. Elsie has a special and close cousin Elaine Tarlton her husband Jimmy and their son Harold. She also has a half sister Roselyn Byrd and her husband Butch.

Elsie was a devoted wife, momma, sister, tante, cousin, friend, neighbor, and sweet granny. She enjoyed playing music with the Edgar Friesenhahn band, gardening, needle work, caring of animals, and writing poetry. She will be remembered for her love of African violets, red birds, Christmas and Easter celebrations, and most of all for her caring personality.

Elsie’s memory will be shared at her visitation Friday, December 28, 2018 from 5-8 pm at Zoeller’s Funeral Home. Her Celebration of Life will be Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Zoeller’s Funeral Home at 10 AM with procession following to Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church or the care givers of Hope Hospice.
