

Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, spouses Norma nee Intrau and Frances nee Friesenhahn and one brother, Arnold Schroeder.
He is survived by daughter Francene Schaefer of New Braunfels, stepson Glenn Hermes of New Braunfels, son Ervin Schroeder Jr. of Fordland, Mo., granddaughter Tina Allen of New Braunfels, grandchildren Patrick and Virginia Schroeder of Springfield, Mo., grandsons Richard Schaefer of Marion, Texas, and Jim Schaefer of Poteet, Texas, four great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, five great-step–grandchildren, two great-great step-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by three brothers, Bruno Schroeder of Ocean Springs, Miss., Alfred “Sam” Schroeder of Defiance, Ohio, and Richard Schroeder of Bulverde, Texas.
As World War II inductee, Ervin was sent to Liverpool, England, and landed on Omaha Beach two days after D-Day. He was in France, Belgium and Germany for the duration of the war. He was awarded six Battle Stars in recognition of his service. Upon his discharge, he worked for a time at Mission Valley Mills and Citizen’s Ice Company prior to employment with MKT Railroad, working in West Texas and Oklahoma. Upon his return to New Braunfels, he worked for Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home for 20 years, followed by 30 years as the grounds and maintenance superintendent at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. He retired in June of 2004, simultaneously celebrating his retirement, his 80th birthday, and Father’s Day with many family and friends present. During his more than 50 years of residency in New Braunfels following his service in World War II, Ervin was a life member of VFW, the American Legion and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He was also a long-time member of the Sportsman’s Club. He was an avid flower and vegetable gardener and was also familiar to many in the greater New Braunfels area as a bingo caller.
Visitation will be on Sunday at 8 a.m. and continue until service time Monday at the Zoeller Funeral Home. The family will be present from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home to greet friends. Funeral service will be conducted on Monday, March 22, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Zoeller Funeral Home with interment to follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
