

Evelyn was born in New Braunfels on January 2, 1927, to Fritz and Adele (Staats) Goerke and attended school in Marion, Texas. On September 6, 1947, Evelyn married Herman J. Friesenhahn in New Braunfels, and they spent their entire lives living in New Braunfels where they raised their four children.
Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family and loved cooking, crafting, and caring for others. In the mid-70s, Evelyn went to work outside of the home as a cook and eventually the cafeteria manager for the Comal Elementary School until her retirement some 20 years later. She won many awards at the Comal County Fair for her decorated cakes and enjoyed selling her sewing creations at local craft fairs.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband Herman; her sons Johnny J. and Ronald J. Friesenhahn; her brother Werner Goerke and his wife Lucille; her sister Ruth Kneupper and her husband, Clemens; her parents; her sisters-in-law Gertrude, Helen, and Lucia Friesenhahn; Rosa Hansmann and her husband Percy; Sister Scholastica Friesenhahn; and brother-in-law Paul Friesenhahn and his wife Gertrude, as well as several nephews.
Evelyn is survived by her son Leroy Friesenhahn and his wife Michelle; her daughter Gloria Christmas and her husband Robert; daughter-in-law Karen Friesenhahn; granddaughter Carrie Johnston and her husband Kevin; grandsons Jason Friesenhahn and his wife Vivian; Justin Friesenhahn and his wife Brittnie; and Chandler Friesenhahn and his wife Gigi; and fourteen great-grandchildren: Cole, Max, Trent, and Molly Johnston; Kaleb, Paxten, and Dillon Friesenhahn; Lucero, Jairo, Miguel, Paloma, Mario, and Camila Reyes; and Armani Friesenhahn. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and her faithful Chihuahua companion, Sugar.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Zoeller Funeral Home with a Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025, by the Very Reverend Steven Gamez, V.F. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School Charitable Trust, or a charity of one’s choice.
