

Frances M. Castilleja, 84, of New Braunfels, Texas, went home to the Lord on Thursday, December 29, 2016. Born on December 3, 1932 in New Braunfels, Texas, she was preceded in death by her parents, Fortunado and Refugia Morales, as well as her older brother, Hilario Morales and her beloved husband of 49 years, Merced Castilleja. Frances is survived by her two devoted sons, Joe Castilleja and his wife, Kristy and Cesar Castilleja and his wife, Suzette along with her beloved grandchildren, Dylan and Chloe Castilleja and Sarah and Thomas Anderson. Frances also leaves behind her sisters Concepcion Farias and husband Jesus Farias, and Alice Flores and husband Raul Flores and her brothers Inocencio Morales, Guillermo Morales, Fortunato Morales, Jr. and wife Mindy, Jesse Morales and wife Angie Morales, and Joe Morales and wife Joann Morales, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Frances Morales Castilleja graduated from New Braunfels High School in 1952. She had numerous jobs before she started her long-time career at New Braunfels High School as the Librarian’s Assistant. While at NBHS she sponsored the Senior Mexican American Club and was the recipient of the distinguished Silver Unicorn Award. She also was involved in the Democratic Party of Comal County and was a Voting Judge for many years. Frances served on the Mid-Texas Symphony Board and was a long-time member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church serving in the choir and the Guadalupana Organization.
After suffering a stroke in 1994, Frances remained a strong woman of faith and love. She never let her disability keep her from living her life. She enjoyed raising her grandchildren and looking after her two sons. They all were the light of her life. Frances’ great calling in life was cooking and serving her community. She loved her family and friends and being a servant of the Lord. Above all else she loved dancing with her great love, Merced, and enjoyed Mariachi music. Frances was also an avid football fan; she loved Unicorn football, all college football, and the Dallas Cowboys.
Public visitation will take place on Monday, January 2, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Zoeller Funeral Home. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship fund has been set up at Frost Bank, 315 Landa St., New Braunfels, TX 78130 under Frances Castilleja Memorial Scholarship Fund, or Hope Hospice, or Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
